Shot timers are a feature on some espresso machines that automatically start timing the length of a shot when the brewing cycle is started. The length of a shot is an important aspect of dialing in an espresso shot to get the best flavor possible. You can use your phone or a stop watch, but it's nice to have a machine that does this automatically. Machines with shot timers are usually a little more expensive than machines without them.
