The Turin SK40 is a new stepless variation of the Turin SD40. It is a well-designed single-dose grinder that uses a tilted base and bellows to minimize retention. It is built with a sturdy aluminum body and features 40mm stainless steel conical burrs with 8 points (same as version 2 of the SD40). In contrast to other grinders within its price range, which often have higher levels of retention and plastic construction, this grinder has minimal retention and is mostly constructed with metal. We are proud to be the exclusive US importer of this product and believe it performs as well or better when compared to grinders like the Niche Zero, Breville Smart grinder, Ascaso grinders, Baratza conical grinders, Fellow grinders, and blade grinders.

It has stepless adjustment that allows for an infinite number of minute settings between the highest and lowest setting. Adjustment is made by turning an adjustment auger, that slowly turns the adjustment collar.

Comes with a wood lid, black metal hopper, black rubber bellows, and a metal dosing cup.

For those interested in the technical details, the grinder measures 6.75 inches in length, 3.75 inches in width, and 12.5 inches in height without the bellows. With the hopper, the height increases to 14 inches. It weighs 5.75 lbs and features a stainless steel dosing cup. The body and base are made of aluminum, with the hopper available in plastic or aluminum, and the bellows made of rubber. Color options for the body include white, black, and polished aluminum, with black or white bellows and polished aluminum, clear plastic, or black metal hoppers. Additionally, lids are available in wood, white, or black. The grinder runs on 110v and 60hz, with a 150-watt motor. The hopper can hold about 40 grams. During grinding the RPM is about 400 rpm. Without beans it is about 650 rpm.

The SK40 is a grinder that can be used for a range of coffee from espresso to French Press, but due to stepless adjustment, it is not as easy to switch between grind sizes when compared to the Turin SD40 V2.

Grinders are tested at the factory with coffee to ensure proper alignment, so there can be minimal signs of coffee in the burrs.

    Turin SK40

I received and started using my grainer SK40, I want to say, it’s a very high quality grinder, it’s quiet and quickly grates coffee, a good price, from the first setup I got an excellent expresso shot, This is my second grinder that I buy here, the first is DF64V, always fast delivery, and I advise if anyone wants to buy a grinder, only here, this is my personal opinion

I purchased the SK40 as a second Pour over dedicated grinder marched to a DF64E espresso specific grinder. After 5lbs seasoning, it has very little static and very small retention. About 2grams depending upon roast. The Grind setting dial spins twice. I did not see this until a mention in a Facebook group. Once I turned it to zero, and then started to adjust, I was getting a perfect grind. With this multiple turn adjustment, the Grind range is quite large.

I needed an espresso grinder to use with the Turin Legato. I liked the price and size of the SK-40. So far has worked great

    Great grinder! Mainly for espresso

Posted by Sean on 6th Feb 2024

It’s great at dialing espresso - my first grinder I have for it. I wanted it to be for both drip and espresso but turning the dial is hard to do quickly. But it works perfectly for making adjustments for grind size with minimal retention

    Makes good espresso grinds

Posted by Chait on 5th Dec 2023

I get good grinds out of it regardless of roast. I have had instances where it doesn't want to take beans so it needs a shake which is annoying. I'm never sure if all my beans have been ground. Kind of annoying but maybe it's because it's not broken in. Also, it's a PITA if you want to switch from drip to espresso setting.

    Very good machine

I don't have a lot of experience with high end grinders but this strikes me as an amazing value. For $200 I received a step less grinder that is solidly constructed with very little plastic. It's everything I wanted at the price point I needed. I almost pulled the trigger on a Sette 270 and I'm glad that I didn't because I can't imagine wanting anything more than this.

Not great good for pour overs

Posted by Ben Guericke on 27th Sep 2023

I wanted to really like this grinder as it works for both espresso and pour over but it can't. When trying to do pour over with a setting of 15-16 out of 19 my brew stalls every time. Looking at the bed there is thick sludge of fines on top of the grounds that prevents water from getting through. I assume this same sludge also clogs the filter. The outputted coffee is also weak and if I try to grind finer the amount of fines and brew time increases. If you want a grinder that can do both the Barazta Esp is much better. The best part of this grinder is the build and look.

    Turin SK40

I was looking for a grinder that could handle espresso and drip coffee. I saw a few reviews on this grinder and liked what I saw. It’s very low retention and stepless. The deciding factor was the disassembly video that you posted on YouTube. Very well put together and hopefully will last for years. I’ve been very happy with the grind I’ve been getting from it.
