The Baratza Preciso is a conical burr grinder that has precision engineered burrs that deliver consistent grind size with minimum fines. Grind size and minimal fines is an important aspect of making coffee with a balanced flavor. The grinder has a wide range of grind sizes – fine enough for great espresso and course enough to the increasingly popular manual brew methods.

Conical Burrs

If only one feature on the Baratza Preciso could be mentioned it would be the Preciso’s precisely designed 40 mm conical burrs that are mounted on a system that provides enhanced stability for additional grinding accuracy. These burrs provide a very uniform grind across the broad range of grind sizes covered by this grinder. It not only delivers uniform grind sizes, it does so consistently. While many grinders become dull after a short time, the burrs on this grinder stay sharp for many years of use. There are few grinders that can deliver such precision consistently and with such longevity.

In terms of production, the burrs can grind 1.5 to 2.4 grams/second, depending on the chosen grind size.

Macro and Micro Grind Size Adjustment

Along with having amazingly precise grinding burrs, the Baratza Preciso also has a macro and micro adjustment system that allows users to operate the grinder with up to 440 unique grind sizes, with a grind size range of 100 to 1170 microns. The grinder has a macro adjustment lever with 40 different positions. A secondary, micro adjustment lever sub-divides each of the macro steps into 11 sub-steps. Each macro level steps adjusts the grind size by +/- 10 microns depending on which way the lever is positioned. This grind adjustment capability is similar to that found on much costlier commercial grinding equipment.

Speed Control and Low Operation Speed

Another unique feature of the Baratza Preciso is the ability for users to adjust the operation speed of the grinding burrs. An electronic speed controller allows users to adjust the speed from a low speed setting of 405 RPM to a high speed of 495 RPM. Compared to most grinders, the Baratza Preciso operates at speeds that a quite low. The low grinding speed reduces noise, heat, and static build-up, and allows coffee beans to feed smoothly into the grinding burrs. The combined benefit is uniform grind size, a lack of fines, and flavor that isn’t altered from overheating.

Recommended Brew Methods

Due to the wide range of grind sizes this grinder provides, it can be used for most brew methods very effectively, ranging from espresso to French Press and manual pour methods.

High Torque Direct Current Motor

A slow turning, high torque motor on the Baratza Preciso provides a cool operating environment, reducing flavor alteration related to grinds overheating. It also makes the operating experience quieter than most and allows for extended grind times. In the unlikely event that heat does start building up in the grinder, the motor is protected with an automatically resetting thermal cutoff switch.

Minimal Remaining Grinds

Coffee grounds that remain in a grinder after operation can go rancid and alter the flavor of fresh coffee beans being ground. For this reason, the Baratza Preciso was specifically designed to leave as little ground coffee in the grinding chamber as possible. This provides more flavorful coffee and reduces that amount of cleaning that is required.

Grind Timer

With a grind timer, you can let the grinder do its thing while you complete other tasks. Once you have established an ideal grind time you can adjust the 60 second timer on the Baratza Preciso to meet your needs. The segmentation graphics on the timer swtich make adjustment easy and repeatable.

Hands-Free Grinding

If you have an espresso machine, you’ll find the Portaholder option on this grinder very convenient, just put your portafilter in the holder and run the grinder until a desired amount of espresso has been ground. This reduces the amount of coffee that is accidently spilled and lets you do something else while the grinder is running. If you don’t have a portafilter, you can always use the included 5 once grounds bin.

Burr Calibration System

The grinder comes pre-calibrated, but if necessary, users can calibrate the Baratza Preciso using it’s innovative burr calibration system.

Clean with No Tools

The Baratza Preciso can be cleaned quickly and easily, without any tools. Even the burrs can be easily removed for cleaning.
