Mahlkonig EK43 Product Description

Here it is—the famous and highly debated Mahlkonig EK43. Developed originally by Mahlkonig as a bench grinder for grinding spices, coffee and grains, the EK43 was acclaimed for its power, high-grinding capacity and speed. In 2012 the EK43 made an unforgettable impression on the coffee community around the world when its performance assisted expert barista Matt Perger in winning the World Brewers Cup.

So what about this machine makes it so special? High grinding capacity, speed, durability, power, consistency, versatility and higher extraction yields. Exalted by coffee experts for its ability to produce matchless grind consistency that ultimately serves to create a superior coffee that is aromatic, sweet and clear.

For such a powerhouse, capable machine, the operation is astonishingly straight-forward. This grinder has a convenient hands-free bag clamp feature making it perfect for the bulk coffee retailer. Press on the bag holder handle and slip an open bag on the spout. To clamp the bag, simply release the handle. Vibration during the dispensing of the beans assists in evenly distributing the grinds in the bag. To adjust the grind size, turn the massive rotary knob located on the front of the machine. To clean the dispensing spout, simply depress the bag holder.

One of the main highlights on this machine is its incredible grinding speed at high capacity. Grinding an astounding 2.8-3.4 pounds per minute or 21-25 grams per second.

This grinder offers stepless adjustment, capable of producing all consistencies from French press to Turkish. Grind adjustments are made by rotating the adjustment knob on the front of the machine. Expert baristas around the world have claimed that this grinder produces the most uniform particle size of any grinder on the market today, this means higher extraction yields and superior tasting coffee.

A coveted feature on this unit is its prized grinding burrs, measuring a whopping 98mm, these flat cast steel grinding burrs rotate at a low speed (1740 rpm) to evenly break down beans while preventing heat build-up which changes the flavor of the roast. The motor has the power of nearly two horses. Between the powerhouse motor and top-notch quality burrs, this machine is guaranteed to be one of the most reliable, consistent grinders on the market today.

Because this machine is depended upon by its users to produce high amounts of grinds at incredible speeds, Mahlkonig has integrated a thermal overload system to protect the motor. The grinder is equipped with an overload circuit breaker above the power switch. There is also a thermostatic sensor located in the motor windings to disrupt the circuit if heat accumulation is too much for the motor. Keep in mind if this occurs, the machine will not be operable for approximately an hour until the unit has had sufficient time to cool off.

This grinder is fitted with a 2.2lb capacity removable bean hopper that is sealed with a close-fitted lid to guarantee preservation of the beans. A handy “trap door” slide plate is located at the bottom of the hopper that permits the user to detach the hopper from the grinder unit while full of beans without losing any roast. This slide gate also offers the busy coffee retailer the convenience of exchanging hoppers with different beans to improve service capability.

IMPORTANT: Water quality is a very important aspect of your espresso machine longevity. Water that is too hard will cause limescale buildup, which is the number one reason for operating problems. Too pure water, such as ultra pure RO water or distilled water can cause the machine to overfill, since the water level probe needs some minerals in the water to detect water. Use softened water that is about 50ppm in hardness. More info

PLEASE NOTE: Most machines and grinders are inspected for damage after being shipped from overseas. This means most boxes will have signs of being opened even though they are brand new products. This is done to ensure that the equipment made the international shipment in good condition and working order.

COMMERCIAL EQUIPMENT NOTE: Most commercial equipment ships on a pallet and has to be bench tested prior to shipment. For this reason, commercial equipment usually ships out three to five business days after the order is received. Some commercial equipment is also special order and/or has limited availability, so please check with us prior to placing an order. Check terms and conditions page for terms relating to commercial equipment.
