Macap presents its M4 commercial espresso grinder, a bestseller in its class. The M4 series is extremely popular among coffee enthusiasts and it is not hard to see why. Macap is a company that is arguably one of the top grinder manufacturers. They have been refining their prestigious machines in Venice Italy since 1930. Famous for their quality, durability and consistency, the M4s stand out among the masses and are a fierce competitor in the grinder market today. This model of the M4 contains many enviable features including a worm gear-driven stepless adjustment for ultimate control of the consistency of the grind, an adjustable doser and a large, removable bean hopper. This unit is guaranteed to produce first-class grinds in the home, office or low-activity commercial setting.

Appearance-wise, this machine looks the part. Every detail on this machine has been meticulously designed to optimize function while preserving finesse. The power cord exits from the bottom of the machine instead of the side as with many other models. This sturdy machine weighs in at a solid 20 pounds and won’t budge during the grind. Stainless steel construction with an exterior available in either chrome or black, this beauty will enhance your coffee area and be a classy partner to your espresso machine.

A feature that sets this machine apart from its competitors is the integrated worm gear-driven stepless adjustment. The stepless adjustment allows users to make infinite tweaks to the size of the grind from fine to coarse to create the perfect consistency. Unfortunately, making the adjustment on many other machines is awkward and clumsy. To avoid this common problem while maintaining the ability to make infinite adjustments, Macap has integrated an innovative worm gear for easy adjustments.

Delivery of the grinds could not be easier utilizing the manual operator switch located on the right side of the machine. Simply turn on to commence the grind and switch off to terminate. The on and off switch

Encased in the body of this machine rotates powerful 58mm flat grinding burrs. Constructed of steel, these bad boys are high-performers. They operate at a very low speed of 1600 rpm to ensure a low-temperature profile to protect the beans from heat build-up. Another added bonus on this machine is its notably quiet operation.

The M4 has superior control of the doser, the mechanism is smooth to operate. The doser minimizes clumping and results in a cleaner delivery system than other doserless models. The dosing levels can be adjusted from 5.5-9 grams per pull. The dosing chamber holds up to 200g of grind and also contains a fingerguard for safety during use. A dose counter is located on the left side of the machine.

Sitting proudly atop this unit is the 1.3 pound capacity bean hopper. It is constructed of durable tinted plastic to protect the beans from any damage from exposure. A low-profile (short and wide) design maximizes on capacity while making it possible to use in the home kitchen. A nice feature on the M4 is the ability to remove the hopper while full of beans without creating a mess using the trap-door feature. The hopper is equipped with a fingerguard.

The M4 has a convenient built-in tamper located on the front of the dosing chamber.

  1. There are three screws holes on the doser, the two longer screws are used for the built-in tamper. The third shorter screw is for filling in the third hole.
  2. The manual provided by Macap still mentions the 'stop pin' for the stepped version.
  3. Cleaning the parts on the Macap - before use, the bean hopper and covers should be cleaned with a mild, non-abrasive soap and rinsed.
  4. No retro kit available to upgrade older grinders.
  5. Please note as with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings on Macap coffee grinders when the unit is powered 'on' and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will 'gunk' up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and will not be classified as a defective grinder - meaning this is not covered under warranty. Macap grinders are considered commercial equipment for grinding coffee only and can not be returned once used.
  6. Please note that the electrical cord is placed between the packaging (foam or cardboard) and the underside body of the grinder. During shipping, it is normal for a bend or insignificant blemish/slice to damage the cord.

IMPORTANT: Water quality is a very important aspect of your espresso machine longevity. Water that is too hard will cause limescale buildup, which is the number one reason for operating problems. Too pure water, such as ultra pure RO water or distilled water can cause the machine to overfill, since the water level probe needs some minerals in the water to detect water. Use softened water that is about 50ppm in hardness. More info

PLEASE NOTE: Most machines and grinders are inspected for damage after being shipped from overseas. This means most boxes will have signs of being opened even though they are brand new products. This is done to ensure that the equipment made the international shipment in good condition and working order.

COMMERCIAL EQUIPMENT NOTE: Most commercial equipment ships on a pallet and has to be bench tested prior to shipment. For this reason, commercial equipment usually ships out three to five business days after the order is received.
