Health Benefits of Coffee: It Can Help Protect You From Dementia and Alzheimer’s

Since they can be such a debilitating diseases and there is currently no cure, everyone is looking for methods of prevention against dementia and Alzheimer’s. Through research, many experts and studies have concluded that regularly consuming coffee can decrease your risk of developing these neurodegenerative diseases. Amazingly, one study even found that drinking 3-5 cups of coffee a day can reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia by 65%.

Like with other conditions, it seems that caffeine is a major factor in coffee’s preventative qualities. Some studies have found that caffeine can inhibit proteins called tau receptors, which contribute to brain cell degeneration. Others show that caffeinated coffee increases levels of GCSF in the bloodstream, a substance that is lacking in Alzheimer’s patients. Of course, these positive effects of coffee are enhanced by an overall healthy diet and lifestyle.
