Comparison of Izzo Alex Duetto 4 and Quick Mill Vetrano 2B Evo Espresso Machines

2nd Jun 2016

Comparison between Izzo Alex Duetto 4 and Quick Mill Vetrano 2B Evo Espresso Machines:

> Both machines have high quality stainless steel construction. The Duetto 4 has curved body styling, the Vetrano has a more traditional rectangular design.

> Both machines have water reservoirs with electronic low water sensors vs the mechanical water level designs some machines have. The mechanical designs tend to be noisier vs the electronic designs.

> Both machines are switchable between 15 amp and 20 amp modes.

> The Duetto 4 comes with 4 different steam tip design options. The Vetrano comes with 2 different steam tip design options.

> Both have cup warmers

> Both have rotary pumps. The Duetto 4's design seems a little quieter.

> Clearance between the drip tray and the portafilter is only 2 inches on the Duetto 4 vs 3 inches on the Vetrano Evo. If you want to pull shots into taller cups, you will have more difficulty doing this with the Duetto 4. A solution that would add more space is if you use a bottomless portafilter (optional addon).

> The PID on both machines can be set in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Both allow you to program the offset differential. Both allow the steam boiler and brew boiler temperatures to be adjusted independently (benefit over heat exchange machines).

> The Vetrano 2B Evo has LED lights that can be turned on or off. The Alex Duetto 4 doesn't have this.

> The Vetrano 2B Evo has a built in shot timer, the Alex Duetto 4 does not. While a phone, stop watch or similar mechanism can be used to time shots, a built in shot timer makes it more convenient by automatically starting to count as soon as you start pulling a shot.

> To switch from water reservoir to direct connect, the Duetto 4 has a manual lever control vs the Vetrano that has a electronic switch. In theory the manual lever control has less chance of malfunctioning vs the electronic switch.

> There are two boiler material options available on the Alex Duetto 4 - copper and stainless steel (additional cost). The Vetrano 2B Evo comes standard with copper.

> The Alex Duetto 4 comes standard with knob controllers for both steam and hot water. The Vetrano 2B Evo also comes standard with knob controllers, but also has joystick controls available as an extra add on.

> To access the water reservoir on the Alex Duetto 4, the entire cup warming tray has to be removed. So if you have cups on the cup warmer this can cause some inconvenience. With the Vetrano 2B Evo, there is a hinged cover on the water reservoir that makes filling more convenient.

> The Alex Duetto 4 has a more ergonomic portafilter handle design - it's angled down for easier insertion into the brew head. The Vetrano 2B Evo's comes straight out so it's as user friendly.

> Both machines have no burn water and steam arms.

> Steam boiler size on the Vetrano 2B Evo is 1.4 liters with a 1400 watt heating element vs the steam boiler on the Alex Duetto 4 which is 1.8 liters with a 1200 watt heating element. The higher wattage on the Vetrano 2B Evo heating element will allow for faster warm up and recovery time, but with the smaller capacity it will need to draw in cold water more often. With fewer watts on the Alex Duetto 4 heating element, it will take longer to heat and will have longer recovery time, but the additional size of the boiler will allow for longer periods of steaming.

> Brew boiler size on both machines is pretty similar - about .8 liters with 800 watt heating element.

> The Vetrano 2B Evo has a slightly larger water reservoir - 3 liters vs 2.4 liters on the Alex Duetto 4.

> At 16 inches, the Vetrano 2B Evo is 0.5 inches shorter than the Alex Duetto 4.

> At 12 inches, the Vetrano 2B Evo is 2.25 inches narrower than the Alex Duetto 4.

> At 18 inches, the Vetrano 2B Evo is .75 inches deeper than the Alex Duetto 4.

> Both machines include a direct water connection and a direct drain connection kit.
