We recommend for someone that primarily grinds for single dose, but occasionally needs a hopper. The burrs and design are best for espresso, but can be used for other types of coffee.
We don't sell the DF83 to international customers from this website, but we do from our sister company, Turin Grinders.
Version 2 Changes
All preorders will be for the DF83 V2. The version two is similar to the version one, but has an updated declumper design and a plasma generator that reduces static cling in the exit chute that some grind sizes, humidity levels, and roast level combinations caused in version 1. Video coming soon showing the difference between with plasma generator and without.
Single dose grinders with large 83mm burrs are usually a pretty pricey investment, with many models costing over $2000. Until now that is. With the new Turin DF83 single dose grinder, you can have an affordable 83mm flat burr grinder for the price that a lot of much smaller burr grinders go for.
Low Retention Single Dosing
The uniquely designed burr chamber allows coffee to be quickly and efficiently, and is very low retention even without the use of bellows. With many other single dose grinders, there is a decent amount that remains in the chamber and has to be removed by using a bellows. With the DF83, during numerous tests the amount that remains behind without bellows is very minimal. We do still recommend using the bellows at the end of each grind session with the burrs still spinning in order to keep the burr chamber as clean as possible at all times, but it usually won’t remove much.
83mm Stainless Steel Flat Burrs or SSP HU Burrs
Stainless steel burrs are the standard design, but we have the option to upgrade to SSP HU burrs. The SSP HU Espresso burrs are best for darker / medium roasts and for more body.
For further information on SSP burrs and which one is best for you, check out our SSP burr pages.
The DF83 can also be used with a hopper if you prefer not to single dose or if you have a larger amount of coffee you want to grind, such as for cold brew or if you want to use this grinder in your business environment.
Wave Spring Washer
Unlike the DF64 which uses springs to hold the top burr carrier in place, the Turin DF83 uses a wave spring washer. While the springs work for the narrower DF64, the wave spring washer design works better for the wider DF83. With the wave spring washer design, taking the top burr off can be done by simply unscrewing the top burr collar.
Painted Aluminum Body
For a premium look and feel, the high quality metal body of the DF83 is beautifully painted in either a black or white finish. The finish is similar to the design of the Turin DF64E or DF64P, but is different from the Turin DF64 original, which is vinyl wrapped aluminum.
Holder for Dosing Cup or Portafilter
As with all the Turin DF64 variations, the Turin DF83 will hold a dosing cup, or a 58mm portafilter. The dosing cup is a durable plastic, but there is also a metal dosing cup option.
The Turin DF83 is designed in house by the owner of the manufacturing company and is an original design. The burr chamber is uniquely designed to have as little retention as possible.
All Purpose Grinder
Being an all purpose grinder, you will be able to grind beans for a wide range of different brewing methods, from espresso to French Press.
There are no steps in the adjustment mechanism of the DF83, which means you will have an infinite number of settings between the largest and smallest settings, allowing you to fine tune your grind size as much as you want to.
Metal Dosing Collar
In order to prevent the grinder from making a mess and getting coffee all over the place, the grinder includes a metal dosing cup collar. It can also be flipped over and used with a 58mm portafilter if you prefer to grind right into your portafilter.

Excellent machine, but most of all, amazing customer service! Joe really listens and tries his best to help satisfying the need of his customers. Really happy we had bought it from Joe. Will definitely recommend buying from this trustworthy site in the future.
Fantastic Grinder For The Price
I originally bought the DF64 when it was first offered by Espresso Outlet and that grinder was great for pour over and exceptional for espresso, with only stock burrs. Whenever the DF83 was announced, I was very excited as I always wanted a big burr flat burr grinder. The DF83 has greatly exceeded my expectations for the quality of grinder that can be achieved at this price point. It's currently my dedicated pour over grinder and I really enjoy the quick and clean grind. There's rarely a need to use the bellows, which is a great improvement from the original DF64. The only issue I've had was with the hopper and trying to season the burrs; the chute clogged and I had to do some disassembly to get things back to normal operation. I also cannot give enough praise to how good Espresso Outlet's customer support is; whenever I had an issue or question, they were quick to respond and very helpful.
I bought this to have a flat burr to compare with my Niche Zero. I love it so much that I hardly ever use the Niche anymore! It’s fast, quiet and makes great coffee!!!
Excellent value, really great espresso
In my opinion, this is the best value espresso grinder on the market. It does a great job with dark to medium roasts and it does an acceptable job on most light roasts. The design, fit, and finish of this grinder is above that of the DF64 and DF64E/P. Espresso outlet's customer service is second to none which is why I always check their website first before I buy anything espresso related. There really is not one grinder on the market that does everything well, but this one comes close, the only person I would not recommend this grinder to is someone who exclusively drinks pour overs or light roast espresso.
Coming from a Ceado e37s with the same size burrs as the DF83. I was not sure if this was going to be an upgrade or not but I am very impressed with the quality of the machine and the coffee that the Df83 produces. It is definitely an upgrade from the ceado. The espresso shots with the stock burrs are very textured and sweet. Overall I am very happy
Df83 Single Dose Grinder
The build quality may not be Lagom p64 standards however the price, burr size, and solid build out weight the aesthetics of the Lagom. The stocks burrs alignment was spot on and produced a traditional style espresso. I swapped the burrs out SSP Mazzer Brew and am loving the clarity on my Onyx light roast coffees
Really happy with my purchase. Joe's DF83 group is super active and allowed me to ask questions regarding this grinder's performance (it's really good) and make an informed decision. I had some follow up questions and emailed Joe directly and was able to get it answered quickly. I made the purchase with the understanding that I can receive great support from Joe and the community afterwards.
Don’t sleep on this one. If high quality, consistent and fluffy espresso grounds are on your list of needs in an espresso grinder, you can stop looking and pick up a DF83. I would hesitate to spend any more on a grinder (even though I’ve had one that cost twice the price) because the DF83 will not disappoint at any level of expectation / price point, unless you are seeking boutique features, a different aesthetic and a name. You’re welcome.
I received my DF83 on 10/31/22 and I am impressed by the robust build, ease of use, pleasing aesthetic but most importantly, the consistency of the doses and the fluffiness / quality of the grinds. I have owned a DF64 and an Eureka atom 75, both of which I replaced with a Niche Zero. My DF83 burrs are not even close to being broken in yet and already the quality of the grinds and consistency of the dose are an another level than those produced by my niche. No more repeated opening and dropping the top on niche to try to release those gremlin grounds, even after which, there will still be grounds expelled if I bump it or drop the top at next use, now I just depress the bellows and what’s gonna come out comes out. It’s obvious by looking at the burr chamber and chute design that this grinder (DF83) has been optimized for single dose espresso grinding. It’s with mixed emotions that the NZ’s been moved out of the kitchen now and will soon be cleaned and put back in the box, because I really felt it met all my needs, but after using the DF83 for a little over a week, I’m thinking I just “drank the koolade” with regards to the Niche and regret paying what it cost to have it shipped to the states a year ago. Thank you Espresso Outlet!
