ECM Technika Profi IV vs Rocket Giotto or Cellini Evoluzione v2

24th May 2016

What is the difference between the ECM Germany Technika Profi IV and the Rocket Giotto or Cellini Evoluzione v2?

First off, the difference between the Rocket Cellini Evoluzione v2 and the Rocket Giotto Evoluzione v2 is just body style design.

Here are some differences between the Technika Profi IV and either of the Rocket Evoluzione v2 machines:

> The Technika Profi IV has a 2.1 liter stainless steel boiler vs the Evoluzione v2 that has a 1.8 liter boiler

> Both are switchable between direct water line connection and water reservoir.

> Both have rotary pumps

> The Technika Profi IV has joystick controls for the steam and hot water wands vs the Rocket Evoluzione v2 that has traditional knob controllers.

> Both have E61 groups that are lever operated and allow for preinfusion.

> The Rocket Evoluzione v2 comes standard with a quality tamper. The Technika Profi IV only comes with a plastic tamper.

> The Technika Profi IV uses 1400 watts vs the Evoluzione v2 that uses 1200 watts.

> Both have no burn steam wands

> The ECM Germany Technika Profi IV has rounded edges, the Evoluzione v2 has squared edges.

> The water reservoir cover on the Evoluzione v2 lifts off, while the cover on the Technika Profi IV is hinged. The hinged cover is nice, but can create issues if you have limited space under a cabinet that doesn't allow the cover to open.

> Both machines come with braided water lines if you want to direct connect them.

> Both come with single and double shot portafilters

> The portafilter handle on the Technika Profi IV is angled vs the straighter handle on the Evoluzione v2. The angled handle on the Technika Profi IV makes the basket stay flat when it's resting on the counter and can make tamping a little easier.

> For water line connection, the Evoluzione uses a switch behind the water tank to switch between the water tank and the direct water line connection. This switch turns a solenoid valve on that opens up to allow water to flow from the water line. On the Technika Profi IV, you take the drip tray off, flip a switch to turn off the reservoir sensor then put the drip tray back on. You then activate the water line connection by turning a manual valve underneath the machine to the on position. The Technika Profi IV's design is mechanical, the Evoluzione's is electrical solenoid. The Technika's design is simpler due to this difference.

> The Evoluzione has a proprietary Rocket designed control system, while the Technika Profi IV has a standard Gicar control system. Both work very well.

> The Evoluzione has a welded frame peice that hold the drip tray on, while the Technika Profi IV has one continuous piece, make the frame stronger on the ECM.
